It was a typical day, one of those when I had to choose between what I truly needed and cutting back on unnecessary purchases. Times were tough, and even though I only bought a few items from the store, I was still short on cash. Embarrassment was written all over my face, but then, something unexpected happened. The cashier slipped me some cash and whispered, “I’ve been there.”
I thanked her quietly, still feeling a bit awkward, and headed to the parking lot. That’s when I noticed there was a note along with the receipt: “Take your child and leave. Now. Don’t look back.”
At first, I was completely confused. Was I in danger? What was going on? My first instinct was to rush back to the store, but something told me to heed the note’s warning. I decided to head home instead, still unsettled by what had just happened.

That’s when she decided to slip me the money and write the note, fearing that I could be in danger.
