In a shocking attempt to raise awareness for the Amazon Rainforest’s destruction, explorer and wildlife enthusiast Paul Rosolie embarked on a daring and dangerous stunt: trying to be eaten alive by an anaconda.
Rosolie, who had spent years studying the Amazon ecosystem, wanted to create a global conversation about the destruction of habitats and the growing threats to endangered species. His plan? To be consumed by a giant snake and then safely extracted before being digested.

Before you think this was a reckless decision, it’s important to note that Rosolie did not intend to actually die from the stunt. Instead, he wore a custom-made suit designed to withstand the immense pressure of the snake’s grip. The suit was equipped with an oxygen supply and cameras, allowing Rosolie to document his terrifying experience for a documentary on the Discovery Channel.
The stunt took place in the Amazon Rainforest, where Rosolie approached a large anaconda, provoking it to attack. The snake latched onto his arm and began to coil tightly around his body. Despite the protection of his suit, the pressure from the anaconda was immense, and Rosolie’s distress was apparent. As the grip tightened, his heart rate soared, and his breathing became labored.
“I’m getting coils over me,” Rosolie said as the snake’s constriction worsened. “She’s got my arms pinned. She knows there’s nothing I can do.” Eventually, unable to take the pain and anxiety any longer, Rosolie cried out, “I’m calling it! I need help.”
His team quickly intervened and performed an extraction, ensuring that Rosolie was not swallowed whole. Though the stunt was terrifying for Rosolie, it succeeded in drawing attention to the urgent need for conservation efforts in the Amazon.
In an interview with Today, Rosolie explained his motivations for the stunt. “It actually started with me watching the rainforest get burned and getting really frustrated that people weren’t as excited about it as I was,” he said. “I wanted to do something that was going to grab people’s attention.”

Through this intense and dangerous experiment, Rosolie hoped to spark a conversation about the destruction of vital ecosystems, using the shock value of his experience to remind people of the urgent need for change in preserving the world’s most precious habitats.
This stunt, while extreme, ultimately shone a light on the devastation taking place in the Amazon and encouraged a much-needed dialogue about conservation and environmental protection.
