Kate Middleton Speaks Out on “Difficult” Time After Cancer Treatment

Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, recently shared her journey after cancer treatment, revealing the challenges she faced in the aftermath of her diagnosis. In January, Kate confirmed that she was in remission after being diagnosed with an unknown type of cancer. She became cancer-free last fall and has since visited numerous cancer patients and openly discussed her experience. During a visit to Colchester Hospital in Essex on June 2, she reflected on the difficulties she faced post-treatment.

While Kate has been seen at various royal events, such as Trooping the Colour and public outings with her husband, Prince William, she is taking a slow and measured approach to returning to her royal duties.

In a column for The Daily Mail, royal correspondent Rebecca English cited sources who shared that the experience has shifted the Princess’s perspective on life. “Cancer impacts on your perspective,” one source said, noting how family and children now remain at the center of their lives. “What you have seen in the decisions they’ve made over the last year is that family and their children continue to be at the center of their universe.”

A source also revealed that Kate is no longer following the intense schedule she had before her diagnosis. “Everyone is adjusting the dial,” the source added, suggesting that the royal couple is now focusing on balancing their royal responsibilities with family life.

Kate’s Reflections on Her Cancer Journey

Kate opened up about her cancer treatment and recovery process during her hospital visit. She admitted that the phase after her treatment was unexpectedly difficult. “You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment. Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult,” Kate explained.

She emphasized that while she was no longer under the care of her clinical team, she still struggled to adjust to life at home. “You’re not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you’re not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to. And actually, someone to help talk you through that, show you and guide you through that sort of phase that comes after treatment, I think is really valuable.”

Kate acknowledged the life-changing nature of her experience, stating, “You have to find your new normal and that takes time… and it’s a rollercoaster, it’s not smooth, like you expect it to be.” Despite the challenges, she remains hopeful, explaining that the experience has helped her develop a new appreciation for life.

Looking Ahead

While Kate is not yet back to her regular schedule, she and Prince William are carefully planning for the future. Sources close to the couple have hinted at “major shifts” happening behind the scenes, as they prepare for their eventual roles in the monarchy. Although Prince William’s ascension to the throne is not expected in the immediate future, the couple is focused on building their teams and refining their approach to their royal responsibilities.

A friend of the couple shared, “They are really finessing what works and what doesn’t,” as they make preparations for their long-term future.
