Lisa Lee, 25, shared a heart-wrenching story with Metro that no one should ever have to experience. One night, as she was sleeping next to her husband, Lewis Little, she was abruptly awakened by what she thought was snoring. Her husband, who usually didn’t snore, was making noises that seemed to be coming from his chest. In a moment of frustration, she gently pushed him out of bed, hoping to stop the noise.
“I thought he was snoring, so I pushed him out of bed to stop. But when I felt the sheet was wet, I realized something was wrong. I turned on the light and looked at his bruised face because he couldn’t breathe. I called the ambulance, but until it arrived, it seemed as if an eternity had passed,” Lisa recalled.

When the ambulance finally arrived, the paramedics delivered the devastating news: Lewis had been dead for a couple of hours. The snoring Lisa had heard was not snoring at all—it was the sound of air escaping his body as he struggled to breathe. The air passing through his vocal cords had created the noise, a sign of something much more sinister than just snoring.
Lisa knew her husband had been diagnosed with Brugada syndrome, a rare heart condition that affects the heart’s rhythm. While Brugada syndrome can be life-threatening, doctors had assured them that Lewis would live a long life and that his condition wasn’t immediately dangerous. Tragically, just one year after his diagnosis, he passed away.

This tragic event serves as a reminder of how quickly things can change and how easily symptoms can be misinterpreted. Our deepest condolences go out to Lisa and her family. May Lewis rest in peace.
