Maintaining a well-balanced diet is crucial for good health, but some foods can be more harmful than helpful. Heart surgeon Dr. Jeremy London, known for sharing valuable health tips with his followers on TikTok, recently highlighted four types of foods that should be avoided at all costs due to their harmful effects on the body. According to Dr. London, these foods can “poison” our bodies and are detrimental to overall health.

1. Fast Food: The Top Culprit

Fast food tops Dr. London’s list of foods to avoid. He calls it an “edible food product,” emphasizing that it lacks essential nutritional value. Fast food is typically high in calories but low in nutrients, packed with synthetic ingredients, artificial sweeteners, excess corn syrup, sugar, salt, and coloring agents. These additives can negatively impact your health, contributing to obesity, heart disease, and other chronic conditions. Research published by the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine in 2017 also supports this, noting that regular consumption of fast food increases the risk of various health issues.

2. Soft Drinks: Liquid Death

Dr. London refers to soft drinks as “liquid death” due to their high sugar content and harmful effects on the body. Both regular and diet sodas can contribute to obesity, diabetes, and metabolic disruption. Even a single can of soda a day is linked to an increased risk of developing type II diabetes, according to research from UCLA Health. Diet sodas, despite their lower calorie count, can also increase hunger and disrupt metabolism, making them no better than their sugary counterparts.

3. Milk Products: A Poison for Your Body

Dr. London highlights milk products as another category of foods to avoid. Humans are the only mammals that continue consuming milk beyond infancy and drink the milk of other species. Milk products, including cheese and butter, are rich in saturated fats, which are associated with obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and even Alzheimer’s. Studies have also linked dairy consumption to an increased risk of breast, ovarian, and prostate cancers. Dr. London advises limiting or completely avoiding milk products for better health.

4. Alcohol: A Toxic Substance for Every Cell in Your Body

Dr. London strongly condemns alcohol, calling it “absolutely toxic to every cell in our bodies.” Even moderate or occasional alcohol consumption can be harmful, leading to various health problems, including liver disease, heart disease, and cancer. Dr. London emphasizes that if we are working towards optimizing our health, the least we can do is stop actively poisoning our bodies with alcohol.

Instead of consuming these harmful foods and drinks, Dr. London encourages a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and minimally processed foods like beans. These foods are packed with nutrients that support optimal health and can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
