A well-balanced diet is essential for maintaining good health, and some foods are more harmful than others. Heart surgeon Dr. Jeremy London, known for sharing health advice on TikTok, recently highlighted four foods that he believes should always be avoided, as they can be detrimental to your health. Here are the foods that Dr. London warns can “poison” your body:
1. Fast Food
As expected, fast food tops Dr. London’s list of foods to avoid. He refers to it as an “edible food product,” emphasizing its lack of essential nutrients. Fast foods are often high in calories and low in nutrients. According to a 2017 article in the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine, these foods are loaded with synthetic ingredients, chemicals, extra corn syrup, sugar, artificial sweeteners, salt, and coloring agents—all of which can negatively affect your health over time.
2. Soft Drinks
Dr. London calls soft drinks “liquid death” due to their high sugar content. Consuming these drinks regularly can lead to obesity, diabetes, and metabolic issues. Even diet sodas, which many consider a healthier alternative, can disrupt your metabolism and increase hunger. Research, including a study from UCLA Health, shows that drinking even a single can of soda per day increases the risk of developing type II diabetes.
3. Milk Products
Dr. London lists milk products as another food to avoid. He points out that humans are the only mammals who continue consuming milk beyond infancy and drink milk from other species. Dairy products are rich in saturated fat, which is linked to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s. Studies have also suggested that dairy consumption is associated with an increased risk of breast, ovarian, and prostate cancers. Dr. London advises limiting or eliminating dairy products altogether.
4. Alcohol
Dr. London describes alcohol as “absolutely toxic to every cell in our bodies,” warning that even moderate or occasional use can be harmful. He urges people to avoid alcohol entirely if they are serious about optimizing their health. Instead of drinking alcohol, he recommends focusing on a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and minimally processed foods like beans and whole grains to support overall well-being.
By avoiding these harmful foods and focusing on a healthier diet, we can take significant steps toward improving our health and preventing long-term health issues.
