A Slithery Surprise
A car owner in Currumbin Valley, Australia, recently had an unexpected visitor inside their vehicle — a coastal carpet python coiled within the engine. Known as the largest snakes along the coast of Southern Queensland, these pythons can weigh up to 22 pounds.
Realizing they needed help, the owner contacted WIRES Wildlife Rescue, who quickly dispatched emergency responder Amy to the scene.

A Careful Extraction
Upon arrival, Amy found the snake resting dangerously close to the engine’s hot surfaces. With care, she gently encouraged the snake to move, securing him without harm.
“Luckily, it was close to the top,” Amy told The Dodo. “I was able to secure the snake and gently tickled it to encourage it to move.”
The snake’s scales were perfectly intact, and he appeared healthy despite his unusual choice of resting place.
A Safe Return to the Wild
After ensuring the python was unharmed, Amy released him back into a natural area near where he had been found.
“It was a happy moment for me to see a healthy animal make its way back into the bushland and [to know] that people [wanted] to help the snake,” she said.
The rescue serves as a reminder of the importance of compassionate wildlife assistance and how a little care can keep both people and animals safe.
