Cyclist Becomes ‘Angel’ After Rescuing Dog Abandoned in the Desert

A Life on the Line

While cycling along the remote desert coast of Peru, Clobaldo Dongo spotted a tiny black figure huddled in the sand. It was a small dog, terrified and clinging to life in the harsh, arid landscape.

“She was very scared,” Dongo told The Dodo. “She tried to bite me when I tried to touch her at first, but she must have sensed my intentions and let me help her.”

Two Hours to Safety

Dongo offered the dog water — likely the first she had had in days — and carried her in his arms for two hours to reach the nearest town. Upon arrival, he secured food for her and connected with a local animal lover who promised to care for the dog.

“I said, ‘No matter what, I’m going to get you out of here,’” Dongo recalled.

The journey highlighted both the dog’s resilience and Dongo’s dedication to ensuring her safety.

A Community Response

The story quickly resonated online, with Dongo’s followers praising his bravery and compassion.

“It feels good to save a life,” Dongo wrote. “We can all be angels for someone. It was my turn.”

A Hopeful Future

While Dongo couldn’t adopt the dog himself, he plans to return to the spot later this month to check on her. Thanks to his heroic actions, the dog now has a chance at a safe, loving life, demonstrating the profound difference one person’s kindness can make.
