“This little elephant was clearly new to the world,” Lum shared. “You could see it was still learning how to walk, how to use its trunk, even how to stand on uneven ground.”

When the adults used their trunks to find tender grass, the baby awkwardly lifted its own trunk, puffing out little clouds of dust, confused when nothing happened. The herd was patient, waiting for the little one to learn the ways of the world.

By midday, the heat was intense. The baby’s tiny body began to give out. It stopped every few minutes, its chest heaving, its small ears drooping with exhaustion. The journey was just too long for its new legs.
Then, the moment came that touched hearts around the world. The baby, completely exhausted, sank to its knees and lay down in the dust. The entire herd paused.
