Field guide Dan Fiser and guest Paola Murguia witnessed the drama unfold while observing a leopardess and her two cubs on the Sand River bank. The cubs wandered into the reeds, followed by their mother. Moments later, all three leopards emerged—locked in a battle with a honey badger.
Instead of running, the badger stood its ground, twisting, turning, and even gaining the upper hand at moments. “We thought they had caught something,” Dan said, “but it was a honey badger—and it wasn’t going down without a fight.”

Leopards are expert hunters, but this wasn’t an easy target. Each cat took turns trying to bring the badger down, but the tenacious fighter fought them off. After several intense minutes, the badger simply trotted away—alive, defiant, and victorious.
