In Texas, two orphaned creatures, a baby deer named Hope and a raccoon named Jasper, have found family in each other after both lost their mothers too soon. When wildlife rehabilitator Carrie Long found Jasper the raccoon, he was barely three weeks old, clinging to life in a rainstorm. His mother was gone, and he was too weak to survive on his own. Long runs Texas Fawn and Friends, an organization that rescues orphaned deer — but she couldn’t turn Jasper away.
“We weren’t sure he’d make it,” she said. “But he did. And now he’s part of the family.”
