Caitlyn Earwaker, a 24-year-old veterinary nurse, and her family were on a river safari when they witnessed this incredible scene unfold. As the boat drifted quietly near the riverbank, a lechwe suddenly leaped into the water, unaware that a stealthy crocodile was watching from below.

The crocodile emerged and charged through the current, gaining fast. Tourists onboard gasped as the predator closed in. “At one point,” Caitlyn recalled, “the crocodile snapped its jaws shut just inches from the buck’s legs.”
Despite the odds, the lechwe managed to stay just ahead—powering through the water, kicking with all its strength. As the shoreline neared, the exhausted antelope made one final push and escaped. The crocodile, unwilling to give up, slowed and eventually vanished beneath the surface.
