Tiny Fawn Knocks on Door, Surprises Homeowner in Search for Mom

Most people open their front door expecting a delivery—not a wild visitor. But for Cory, a quiet day at home turned unforgettable when a baby deer showed up on his doorstep, almost as if asking for help.

A Surprise Visitor

Cory heard a strange noise outside. When he opened the door, he was shocked to find a tiny fawn—just over a day old—standing there. The little deer blinked up at him, completely unafraid, as if searching for something.

It turned out, the fawn was born right in Cory’s yard along with two siblings. “Two were born the day before, so this little fawn was about 28 hours old,” Cory said. The mother, like most wild deer, stayed away for long stretches to keep predators from catching her scent. She always returned, but while she was gone, one curious fawn decided to visit the only other “animal” it knew—Cory.

An Unexpected Bond

The fawn seemed perfectly comfortable, having seen and smelled Cory and his family since the moment it learned to stand. For a brief, magical moment, the line between wild and human disappeared—just a little lost deer, looking for comfort, and a human lucky enough to witness it.

Soon, mom returned and the family of deer slipped back into the woods. But Cory says they still come back to his yard, a reminder that sometimes, the wild finds us.
