Emma Watson has addressed the six-month driving ban she received earlier this year, after accumulating nine points on her license and speeding in Oxford, England. The actress, known for her role as Hermione Granger in Harry Potter, was caught driving 38mph in a 30mph zone in her blue Audi, which led to the ban and over £1,000 in fines.
In a candid interview on Jay Shetty’s podcast, Watson explained how her lifestyle as a movie star contributed to her lack of driving experience. She revealed that while working on films, she was never allowed to drive herself due to insurance reasons, and was always driven to set by a team. She said, “When you work on movies, they literally will not insure you to drive yourself to work. You have to be driven, it’s not a choice.”
Watson transitioned to driving herself after becoming a student at Oxford University in 2023, where she found herself behind the wheel much more frequently. However, the actress admitted that she lacked the experience to handle everyday driving, something she previously never needed to do. This adjustment to normal life has been “humbling” for Watson, who expressed how she felt capable of handling complex movie stunts but struggled with basic life tasks, like remembering her keys or sticking to speed limits.
She added, “It’s been a discovery and a journey that’s been humbling,” revealing the challenges of balancing her public persona with the realities of everyday living.
