In a surprising move, Jason Momoa, known for his iconic beard, has shaved it off for the first time in six years—but it’s not just for a new look. The Aquaman star made the drastic change to raise awareness about the environmental issue of single-use plastic.
A Bold Statement for the Planet
Momoa, 45, posted a video on Instagram on July 30, showing the moment he shaved off his beloved beard. In the post, he shared the reason behind this change:
“Haven’t shaved in six years, and here we are again,” he wrote.
The actor went on to explain how he has launched his own company, Mananalu, aimed at helping eliminate single-use plastic. In collaboration with Boomerang Water, Momoa is working on a closed-loop system that sanitizes and bottles water onsite, which reduces waste and the shipping footprint. Additionally, the company’s aluminum bottles are designed to be reused over and over, making the initiative more sustainable.
“This is the future, and we’re starting in Hawaii. Let’s get rid of single-use plastic. For our children and for our planet. All my aloha, J.”
Fans React to the New Look
Fans were shocked by the actor’s clean-shaven appearance. Momoa’s trademark beard has been a defining feature of his look, and seeing him without it left many fans in disbelief. On Twitter, fans couldn’t help but comment:
- “Babe wake up Jason Momoa has a bald face.”
- “Jason Momoa looks completely different!!”
In the video, Momoa jokingly added that he shaved his beard “only for you, Denis,” referring to Denis Villeneuve, the director of Dune, in which Momoa plays the role of Duncan Idaho.
“Goddamnit! I hate it,” Momoa said, clearly missing his iconic look.
A New Chapter for His Son
In other news, Momoa’s son, Nakoa-Wolf, is set to make his acting debut in Dune 3, scheduled for release in December 2026. He will play the child of Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya‘s characters. Momoa, however, denied rumors that he helped his son land the role.
“He’s in for a rude awakening… He’s into the workforce for the first time,” Momoa joked.
He added that Nakoa-Wolf had secured the role entirely on his own, saying, “It’s going to be good. He did it on his own… good for him.” Momoa also spoke about how proud he is of his son, saying, “You want your children to be better than you, and I really, actually believe he is.”
Looking Ahead
As Momoa prepares to return as Duncan Idaho in Dune 3, it seems his career and personal life are in a period of transition, with environmental activism, family milestones, and new roles keeping him in the spotlight. Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the next Dune film and to see how much time both he and his son will share on screen.
While the beard may be gone, Momoa’s commitment to making a difference for the planet—and his dedication to his family and career—remains strong.
