It’s likely that most of us try to clean our homes at least once a week. But because many of us live busy lives, it’s not always easy to keep up.
There are a lot of different opinions on how to keep bath and cooking towels fresh. Sometimes we wash them once a week, and sometimes we wait until they smell bad. I was doing everything wrong, though. Here are five mistakes people often make when they wash their clothes and how they should be done instead.
1. Not washing towels very often
You might think that you wash your towels often enough that skipping a week won’t make a difference. That was wrong, though.
Bath towels only need to be washed three to four times. Bacteria like wet towels, which can cause smelly things to happen.
Even more often, you should wash kitchen towels and towels that hang near sinks. Every other day, you should change these towels because they get dirty quickly from being used all the time.
2. Putting towels too close to each other
A common mistake is putting too many towels on one hook or too close together. This keeps them from drying out properly, so dirt stays on them. Bacteria and mould can grow on towels that aren’t dried properly.
Hang your towels in a way that lets air flow around them so they stay clean longer. The best way to do this is on different hooks or a towel dryer.
3. Using Cold Water to Wash Towels
If you consistently wash your clothes, make sure you do it the right way. Bacteria might not be killed by washing them at temperatures below 60°C.
To make sure your towels are really clean and fresh, make sure you follow the washing instructions on them and wash them at the right temperature.
4. Putting too much fabric softener or detergent on
You might think that adding more soap or fabric softener will make the towels cleaner, but it’s not true. Because towels are made to soak up liquid, extra soap can get stuck in the fibres and not rinse out properly. Soil and germs can grow in this way.
Follow the directions for how much soap and fabric softener to use, or don’t use any at all because it can make towels less absorbent.
5. Not Moving the Towels Around
People often forget to do this simple thing: shake your towels after you wash and dry them. This easy step gets rid of any dust or soap that is still on the towels, making them as fresh as possible.
Tell your friends and family about these ways to keep their towels clean and fresh. Have fun washing!
