Archaeologists Reveal Significant Find at Place Where Jesus ‘Walked on Water’

A remarkable archaeological discovery has been made in Upper Galilee, where Jesus is believed to have walked on water. Researchers uncovered a 1,700-year-old stone engraving at the site, offering new insights into the ancient boundaries of the Roman Empire and shedding light on the biblical connections of the region.

The stone, etched with Ancient Greek inscriptions, was found in Abel Beth Maacah. It marks the boundary of two previously unknown towns—Tirathas and Golgol—that may be linked to significant biblical locations: Gilgal and Golgotha.

Biblical Significance

Gilgal is mentioned in the Book of Joshua as an Israelite site, and Golgotha is widely known as the place of Jesus’ crucifixion. The stone’s mention of these towns provides further evidence of the complex landscape of the ancient region.

Tirathas, noted in 19th-century Lebanon texts, could be the forgotten site of Tirathas, a previously lost town, adding to the rich historical tapestry of the area.

Broader Roman Influence

The inscription refers to Emperor Marcus Aurelius Alexander and mentions four Roman officials responsible for managing the territories during that time. Professor Uzi of Hebrew University noted that finding this boundary stone not only illuminates ancient land ownership and taxation systems but also offers a tangible connection to the lives of individuals who navigated these complex structures nearly two millennia ago.

Other Remarkable Discoveries

Alongside the stone, archaeologists also uncovered a 1,500-year-old amulet known as “Solomon’s Seal,” believed to protect women and children from evil spirits. This amulet adds another layer to the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of the region.

Additionally, a religious shrine, untouched for over 3,000 years, was found in Jerusalem. Believed to have been sealed by Jesus’ ancestors, this shrine is located on the eastern slope of the City of David, near the Temple Mount. It includes eight rooms, a standing stone, and an altar, further confirming the sacred history of the area.
