The Today show family and viewers across the nation are grieving an unspeakable loss.
Uche Ojeh, the beloved husband of longtime Today co-host Sheinelle Jones, has passed away at just 45 years old after a courageous battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive and rare form of brain cancer.
The news was shared during an emotional segment on Today, where Sheinelle’s co-anchors honored Uche’s life with tears and heartfelt tributes.
🕊 “There Are No Words for the Pain”
With heavy hearts, Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin, Al Roker, Carson Daly, Dylan Dreyer, and Jenna Bush Hager came together on-air to deliver the devastating update.
“There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and her children,” Guthrie said. “Uche was an incredible person. He brought light, warmth, and love to every room.”
Craig Melvin, close friend of the family, added tearfully:
“He loved those kids more than anything. He was that dad — always on the sidelines, always there.”
đź’‘ A Love Story That Spanned Two Decades
Sheinelle met Uchechukwuka Adenola Ojeh at Northwestern University, where their story began with a college tour. That chance meeting blossomed into a powerful, 18-year marriage.
Together, they raised three beautiful children: Kayin (15), and 12-year-old twins Clara and Uche. Their home was filled with music, laughter, church choir harmonies, and deep-rooted Nigerian traditions — all lovingly instilled by Uche.
He wasn’t just Sheinelle’s husband — he was her rock, her best friend, and her perfect match.
“He was a man of faith, pride, and purpose,” Guthrie shared. “Uche was Sheinelle’s balance — joyful, gentle, and strong.”

🧠What Is Glioblastoma?
Glioblastoma is one of the most aggressive brain tumors, often resistant to treatment. Symptoms include seizures, memory loss, and fatigue. While treatment options exist — including radiation therapy, clinical trials, and specialized brain cancer care plans — glioblastoma is difficult to manage long-term.
Sheinelle stepped away from the Today show in late December 2024 to be with her husband during his final months, referring to it at the time as a “family health matter.”
🕯 Sheinelle Breaks Her Silence
After months of privacy, Sheinelle posted a quiet tribute on Instagram with a simple message:
“Thank you for all of your love and support. ❤️”
The clip she shared featured her Today family’s emotional farewell to Uche — and a glimpse into the deep sorrow now surrounding the once joyful anchor.
📌 Family Support, Grief Resources, and Next Steps
This tragedy is a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly life can change. Families navigating sudden illness and loss often face emotional and financial challenges — from grief counseling to life insurance claims, funeral expenses, and long-term support for children.
